Co-Counsel and Referral Arrangments

Letter to Fellow Lawyers:

I have been honored to have been recognized as one of the Nation’s top personal injury lawyers by multiple professional organizations, including SuperLawyers®, Top 100 Trial Lawyers®, Nation’s Top One Percent®, which makes me a desirable choice to serve as co-counsel in your most important cases.  I have been referred many clients by other law firms over the years, and respect the arrangement whether I serve as lead trial attorney in a complex case or simply offer advice or local counsel services.  If your firm has a need for a top tier lawyer who is experienced in complex litigation and respected by the bench and bar, consider an affiliation with me.  Settlement is always a goal, but leveling the playing field against major insurance companies and corporations in the courts  is the top priority.

My Qualifications:

First licensed in New York and Colorado in 1983, James “Jim” Avery is a graduate of the University of Denver College of Law (’82) with extensive connections in the Rocky Mountain legal community.  James Avery is also licensed and has practiced extensively in the field of personal injury litigation in New York and Indiana.  He began his career in a hybrid law practice doing commercial lines insurance defense and catastrophic personal injury work, including representation of the University of Colorado School of Medicine and its physicians, St. Paul Insurance Co., Wausau Insurance Co., Associated Aviation Underwriters, and others.  Jim cut his teeth doing spinal cord and brain injury litigation with one of Denver’s pre-eminent trial lawyers, John Breit (deceased).

I have established a diversified practice, successfully representing plaintiffs in the fields of personal injury and mass torts, commodities and financial fraud, employment discrimination and unlawful employment practices, product defects, aviation, trucking, automobile collisions, consumer protection, environmental and toxic exposures, hospital and medical malpractice, insurance bad faith, and civil rights. I have represented individuals, or groups of persons, in state and federal coordinated, multi-district, and complex litigation throughout the United States, including New York (1983), Colorado, Indiana (2003), California, Illinois, Arizona and Texas. I have served as co-counsel, and am presently engaged in a multi-state litigation involving 6,000 patients exposed to HIV and Hepatitis, which I originated.

I possess the sophisticated legal skills and trial experience necessary for the handling of large, complex cases, and for litigating against the world’s largest corporations and insurance companies.  I invite you to peruse my website (Biography of James W. Avery) to see how an affiliation might be to our mutual benefit. I am not looking for work, just avenues to expand my involvement in major, complex litigation; in fact, I am a rainmaker.  I am open to any prospect.

Please feel free to contact me to discuss your case by phone or email.
